A similar action was taken by Mani, A 21 year old engineer who filed a legal complaint over his fake profile on India’s most popular social networking site – Orkut.
A 21-year-old man on Tuesday filed a complaint at the suburban commissionerate alleging that a fake profile, describing him as a pimp, had been created on the popular social networking site, Orkut. Mani (name changed), an engineering graduate, said he had been receiving phone calls from strangers for over a week, seeking details about the women on offer and about the rates.
Mani told TOI: “I have just finished my B.Tech and am waiting for a placement. I cannot imagine who carried out this act and cannot understand why I have been targeted. The suburban commissioner has taken my complaint and forwarded it to the cyber crime officials.”
Culprits should be thrown behind bars and cyber cops should send a strong message that such nuisance will not be tolerated and will be dealt with severe consequences. I will also suggest other orkut members suffering from a similar prank to file a complaint to cops so that perpetrators should be brought to justice.
